The Self Isolation series is Nicole Tang's creative response to dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic. Experiences of self-quarantine, isolation, solitude and social distancing were all strong elements that allowed the creation of this body of work. This series was art therapy in dealing with mental health and staying balanced while being indoors for an extended period of time. The body of work allows for self-reflection on life’s choices, purpose and impact on others and the world. This is one of the most powerful series she has done that has been life changing.
Artist Bio:
Nicole Tang is a Trinidadian visual artist and art teacher who was traditionally trained in painting, drawing and sculpture. Many of her artworks include common subjects such as landscapes, still life, figure drawing and sculpture. Graduate of the University of the West Indies with BA Visual Arts, her works evolved from those traditional subjects to complex and layered mixed media work to minimalist acrylic paintings and most recently, minimalist Chinese ink paintings.
Experimental work in various media seeks an exploration of materials and artistic expressions in representing her interpretation of the world around her. These expressions can been seen from detailed work to very minimalist compositions.
Past group exhibitions include Art Society of Trinidad and Tobago, Horizons Art Gallery, ThinkArtWork Studio, The National Academy for the Performing Arts, The National Museum and Art Gallery of Trinidad and Tobago, Visual Arts Galleries, the Parliament of Trinidad and Tobago and the Central Bank of Trinidad and Tobago.
