Black Star, 2024
Junior Sealy, Barbados
Limited Edition Photographic Print (5) Hahnemühle Silk Baryta 310gsm
23.62 × 15.75in | 60 X 40cm
A striking celebration of Ghanaian identity, this image embodies strength, pride, vibrancy, and individuality. Conceived, styled, directed, and photographed by Junior Sealy, the campaign was captured at Black Star Square, also known as Independence Square, one of Ghana’s most iconic national landmarks, situated between the Accra Sports Stadium and the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park.
The model’s hair is sculpted into the form of a star, a deliberate reference to the Black Star that stands as a powerful symbol of Ghanaian independence, unity, and aspiration. His oversized, layered garment creates a commanding silhouette, representing the richness, complexity, and resilience of the Ghanaian people. Photographed from an elevated vantage point overlooking the stadium, the composition reinforces the star motif at the heart of the image, drawing the viewer’s eye to a subject who stands as both an individual and a symbol of national pride.
